Hi Mike, what brings you to Indy? Which side of town will you be working on? I live and work in Avon, and I love it out here. It is a western suburb of Indy. I have 2 little ones, one is going into 2nd grade, the other is 4 years old. They sure keep me busy! There's plenty to do around here, and we love going to the area parks to walk and play.
There is a lot around Indy in your price range, I don't think you'll have a problem finding something, you just need to decide where you want to be.

Mike, MikeJayne is right...there are lots of homes for around 150K. You will probably be quite shocked coming from Colorado.

I was about to suggest Avon too. Over the past 5-10 years it has really been built up with more shops, restaurants etc. It seems like a very nice place for families.

You can get a lot of house for your money in and around Indianapolis. Most often when talking real estate around here you will hear people talk about the east, west, north, and south sides. There are good things about all sides. I would ask a lot of questions, be thorough in conveying to someone helping you choose a location what exactly you are looking for. With children, you will definately be searching for a very good school system, and there are many. I think Avon (west) always looks well kept, but if I'm not mistaken it seems as though there might be an issue with taxes, I might be mistaken. Also, I don't know if you are into little towns, but Avon doesn't have a quaint downtown, like many of the areas around Indianapolis. This however might not be of importance to you. I don't know much about the east side. I do like the Greenwood area (south), Plainfield (west) has great parks, Brownsburg (west) is nice, also Zionsville, Carmel and Fishers (north) are certainly popular choices. Also I would ask about traffic situations, I don't know where you will be traveling to for work, but I know you will definately want to consider the traffic you will encounter during your commute when selecting a location for a house.
