I'm a retired tyke on CD (also a fast typist ). There are people on the Retirement Forum with 25-50-75k+ posts. I suspect there are lots of equally active posters elsewhere on CD.

FWIW - IMO - most of my posts - like those of other people whose primary place of residence on CD is the Retirement Forum - tend to be informative (many Retirement Forum posters are also active on the Health Insurance Forum - sharing what they know about Medicare and the like). Or people/posts are simply friendly - neighborly. We tend to know one another after a lot of years on the Retirement Forum. We know who has money - or doesn't. Who has problems - or doesn't. We try to support one another - regardless of circumstances - keeping in mind that some people - like me - have more resources. And that other people have few or none. On occasion - I have given "Secret Santa gifts" to people on CD who are struggling to come up with some money for Christmas gifts to kids/grandkids. Working there has taught me to be compassionate and humble to the best of my abilities (which are pretty meager IMO but seem to be more than most people here have) when dealing with people who - sometimes - have simply been dealt a lousy hand in life. I try to bring that spirit here - but it doesn't seem to be contagious .

Note that if anyone missed what I was trying to say about OP and religion - it was that - in 1995 - when I moved here - looking around - I felt uncomfortable being Jewish there. It was too much of a Southern Baptist place for me. The situation today might be different. I don't know. Robyn

P.S. The single most interesting person I have ever met here was a very senior military person who lives in Clay County (long story how we met). We had dinner one night - and I found the conversation fascinating. Certainly much more interesting than school moms complaining that school buses are too hot or too cold.

I, for one, am VERY appreciative of Robyn55's posts. Her posts are very informative, and I am glad to see her back posting here.

My husband and I currently live in the northeast and will be retiring..sooner than later..in Jacksonville/St. Augustine.

And have to feel they're better than someone to feel good about themselves. Not the way I personally approach life.

HuH??? Oh the Irony...from someone who constantly brings up income level in her town and neighborhood, her retired lawyer-ivy-league background, etc.

Thank you. Your comment meant a lot to me. Especially because you came out of "lurker status" to make it. I think that some people who post here don't realize what the lurker/poster ratio is here. On other chat boards too. It is usually estimated at 20/1 or even more.

And I am sorry that 2 posters here - who are both recent "immigrants" to this area - attempted to vilify or impugn you for making your first post here. Even for something as silly as whatever name you chose to post here. I don't think they're indicative of the people who live in this area as a whole. Who - for the most part - are pretty friendly people IMO. I know that if anyone came out of lurker status - even just to diss me - I would find a better/more friendly way to respond to whatever that long term lurker posted. Robyn
