Apparently this is true Amazon.com is hiring 5,000 people for jobs. My mom goes and see's this report on the news and tells me to go apply do the warehousing job, stocking stuff and shipping it off to customers etc. She says thats she what did she she worked at Sears years ago so why can't I get that type of job at Amazon?

While Amazon hires 5,000 I wonder how many Barn's & Noble, Waldenbooks and other said brick and mortar stores have laid people off and closed their doors due to competition from Amazon?

While Amazon hires 5,000 I wonder how many Barn's & Noble, Waldenbooks and other said brick and mortar stores have laid people off and closed their doors due to competition from Amazon?
Borders (and their mall brand Waldenbooks) alone laid off 11,000. (link)
Barnes & Noble plans to close 20 stores a year for the next decade. (link) Figure 50 employees/store x 20 x 10 = 10,000 eventual layoffs, and that's probably a conservative estimate.
From the article: The Fulfillment Center "would hire a significant number of locals, some of whom had been out of work for 20 years." That's MY defination of soulless.
The people of this town were coal miners. Ever seen photos of a coal mine? They make Amazon's Center look like Disneyland. And let's not even get into a discussion about job safety. . .

I wouldn't blame that on Amazon, but on the lack of interest in reading books in paper form.
