So I got an email just today to come in for a job interview tomorrow, so I need to call in sick at my current job.
However, a twist: I already called in sick for another job interview a few weeks ago (for a job I eventually didn't get). Can anyone recommend another excuse? Or should I stick with the same "I'm not feeling well" phone call?
It is kind of funny how the strict 9-to-5 jobs trap you in such a way that the only way to ever get out is to completely destroy yourself financially and quit without having anything else lined up.
Maybe look for a line of work that isn't so, let's say, lame.
• bathroom flooded and need to wait for the plumber
• electricity went out
• car died
• crown on tooth broke, need emergency repair
• girl/boyfriend or spouse needs to go to the ER
• kidney stone
• child is sick
If you can take a half-day and make up the work later, even better.

I think it's sad how you get 24 hours' notice or less for an interview these days. In many cases, this happens months after you've applied or reached out to contacts at the company too. When I interviewed people at my last job I ALWAYS gave them the option of lunch or after-hours interviews. It's just courtesy since THEY are checking you out too. Hiring is never a one-way street. Not saying the OP can control that. S/he may have no leverage with the hiring manager.
Personally, I wouldn't lie. I would simply call and say a personal issue has come up and I cannot make it into work today.
But, I would only do that if no ones was dependent on me (specifically) that day. That is, if there was a meeting I needed to attend that couldn't get moved, I wouldn't call out.
I don't ever recall either giving or getting only 24 hour notice for an interview.
Anywho, they are eventually going to get suspicious of the sick excuse. Especially when you are at work the day before and after with no signs of being sick.
The interview is at 10:00 tomorrow. I could say it's a doctor's appointment, but I don't want to re-use that same reason if I have to take yet more time off for another interview.
Nothing can be more disarming than humor. Try humor, it's a gamble, but you might win!
When one of my co-workers called in sick one night, making us short of staff, I asked her the next day what her excuse was. Migraine headache!
Humorously:
"Now that excuse is totally unacceptable to me! If you had said you had reached that stage of becoming so horny that you would have put your co-workers and patients at risk, excuse would have been acceptable!"
