I was wondering what is the best time of year to do this? I was thinking spring.

Also are there any discounts to be found online? Is there good lodging nearby?

Also are there any LDS members that could guide us through the grounds? Would be so awesome to have some believers on hand so they can distinguish the holy from the mundane.

I'm very excited as I never thought the Garden would be so convenient; my family and I don't even need a passport!

As far as I know the LDS believes it was in Jackson County, MO... it doesn't actually exist anywhere anymore though. Unless it's on Mormon owned private property somewhere (very possible).

Looks like it is at 200 South River Boulevard, Independence, Missouri according to Bringham Young though Joseph Smith thought differently.

"and many early adherents believed that the Garden of Eden had been located there—including later LDS leaders Brigham Young and Heber C. Kimball, who claimed to have been told this by Joseph Smith. However since Smith never issued an official revelation to this effect, Latter Day Saints (other than some adherents of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints) traditionally do not formally accept this claim as doctrine.[5] While Smith later issued a revelation indicating a spot named Adam-ondi-Ahman (fifty miles to the north of Independence) as the place Adam and Eve went to after being expelled from the Garden, he never officially confirmed or denied the idea that Independence had been the location of Eden itself."

That whole area is owned by a few different Mormon Churches. You won't find a garden, but a temple, a museum, one of the Churches headquarters, and a meeting place with a giant pipe organ in it along with a few other things. Sounds like you might find the area interesting, might be worth you visiting. You'll find nothing but Mormons around there (although, not of the Bringham Young following), I'm sure they can point out anything significant.

The real Garden of Eden is 250 miles due west of Jackson County, MO.
