I didn't know KC had those buildings before! The detail they put into those buildings were pretty amazing!

It is really unfortunate that they've all been torn down to make way for "new stuff".

Even the Westgate Hotel, that is probably the most plain-looking, had so much "character"!

Are there still areas in downtown KC that look like the locations above?
There are places downtown that look really great, but you won't find these exact buildings anymore... or really anything that looks to similar.

Here are some pictures of downtown that were taken by CD member kcmo:

This building I always thought was pretty cool Western Auto Lofts building:

Oh wow, looks like downtown KC still has a ton of really neat structures !

Thanks for the shots, kcmo, and thanks to skrizzle for sharing them here too .

If you put the pics in the main post, side by side with the pics above, it's almost like "KC before, and KC after".

It's just nice to see buildings with character in KC! I guess in the part of downtown I work (near Broadway Bridge), most of the buildings are just big gray/red blocks... Or maybe I'm just super picky. LOL!

Also, I only got to see the city "from below" or street-level, and that's really not the best way to view what a city has to offer.

Hey everyone. Saw this really cool post - thanks for the great photos and history!

I just finished making a website for C&M Restoration a company in Kansas City that restores a lot of historic buildings. Here are a couple images straight from their website:
Folly Theater Restoration

A historic church in Kansas City.

Anyways just thought I'd share. Does anyone know which church this is or where it's located?
