Hi everyone, I'm Brian and I'm beginning the search for a home near Beverly KY. My wife Courtney and I were originally hoping to move earlier this summer, but COVID has unfortunately delayed our move for a semester. Which means I'll be staying in Texas, where I just finished graduate school, before moving to the area to begin my teaching career.

Our son Sean is a brand new baby and we hope and expect that he's the 1st of MANY children for us. (We plan on filling a quiverful), he was born at home and hope his sibling's follow suit. Courtney and I are devout Lutheran (LCMS).

Any future neighbors have insight?

This is NOT a good area to move to, you had better consider other options. Bell and Leslie counties are some of the most impoverished areas in the US. Just about anywhere else would be an improvement.....

If you are considering employment in the school system, I applaud your desire to serve. This area needs all the help it can get, based on the statistics. Godspeed to you and your family.

London, KY, although it still has massive problems overall, but is infinitely better than the area you referenced. You would be better advised to stay in Texas as it has far better economic conditions than the majority of eastern Kentucky.....

Bell and Leslie County KY data:

London, KY by comparison is only marginally better.

To live in town your options are

27 min - Pinevile
40 min - Middlesboro
45 min - Harlan, Barbourville, Manchester, Hyden

In terms of school rankings Harlan independent is the best, ranking 9th best district in the entire state. My dad's family came from Harlan County. Harlan city is actually pretty nice for the region. Decent amount of restaurants and shopping for a small town.
