I am considering moving to Johnson City, but have heard not such positive things about the local hospital and lack of physicians. If anyone knows a very good physician or dentist, please recommend them! Anyone have a good or bad experience at the Johnson City Medical Center?

Thanks!

Default Doctors

That surprizes me, as I have heard JC is loaded with good doctors and Hospitals. There is a med school in JC and up to date state of the art hospitals. I asked that same question about medical care and everyone has told me JC is the best.

Hey there and Hotty Toddy. I go to Ole Miss but am from the tri-cities region.

Johnson City has one of the best medical centers in TN. My Dad had bypass surgery a couple years ago by Dr. Moulton and is doing great. I don't know where you heard that, but you got passed some bad information.

Johnson City has no lack of physicians primarily because it is home to one of the four medical schools in Tennessee. Nashville has two and Memphis has the other one. For a city its size, Johnson City is blessed with many medical specialists. (I suppose anyone can have a bad experience in any hospital these days; they all seem to be understaffed.) If you know what medical speciality you are looking for, I may be able to help. As far as dentists go, a lot depends on whether or not you have dental insurance. There are very few dentists I would NOT recommend.

Johnson City's medical facilities are so extensive that they serve residents of four states.

Default Hospitals

Are there any county hospitals in JC? Or are they privately owned? From my experience in S. Fl, it seems that the county hospitals are so much better than the private hospitals, because the privately owned hospitals' main goal is money and not people. Any thoughts?

Some of the hospitals here in the Tri-Cities area are listed as not-for-profit but are not county or city owned. Good news is that there are two major hospital systems, MSHA and Wellmount, that compete with each other and competition always helps to keep a quality focus. These are regional hospitals and most specialties can be found here.
