My God daughter and her fiance are going to Gatlinburg in April for spring break. I'm looking up directions for them for the cabin they rented but Google maps is saying the exit they need is still closed. Does anyone know?

They're trying to get to Short Ridge Ct in Gatlinburg if that helps, coming off 40E.

I'm completely unaware of exit closures, but you can still get there via other exits. Getting to Gatlinburg is a pain, though, unless you have a helicopter or some sort of tunneling vehicle.

Where are they driving from, btw? There might be an easier, albeit not shorter, route into Sevier county.

Coming from Crossville on I-40. Technically coming from Spencer in Van Buren county but it looks like they need to take 40 to get there. Everything else seems out of the way.

How about if they stay on 40 to exit 407 and take 71 south right into the area? Not showing any roads closed there. And seems a bit more direct. They've not driven long distance much, so I don't want them getting lost!

That's probably the best option. Henley Street Bridge is closed in downtown Knoxville and will be closed for many, many months, and unless your goddaughter and her fiancé know how to maneuver through downtown Knoxville to the Gay Street bridge, it's probably easiest just to stay on I-40 to Exit 407. Be warned, however, that once they get off at Exit 407 there's road construction (of course) between I-40 and Sevierville, too.

Well, what day of the week would they be coming in on? The Sevierville exit is known to be backed up for 20-30 miles on some weekends...

IF the 388 exit is still closed when they are coming through, you can always advise them to take the 387 exit (17th Street/Western Ave/UT), and jump up to Western Ave and take a right turn at Henley Street. It's really not a bad detour...less than a mile.

Other options would include taking the 'scenic way' taking I-140 towards Maryville/Alcoa (the airport exit - 376) and taking US 129, then TN 35 to US 321, and come through Townsend and coming into Gatlinburg (via the Little River Rd) the back way, through the park. It certainly isn't quick, but there is considerably less traffic (at least in my experience), and it would be a less stressful and more beautiful trip overall. I would advise them to print out maps of the area so they don't get lost!

To simplify the directions, it might just be easier to get off at US 321 near Lenoir City and head straight towards Maryville...that would cut out all of the exits and turns, as well as avoid I-40/75 altogether.

Sounds like 407 is their best bet. The construction will slow them down so they can pay attention to where they need to turn, but the directions look like if they get off there it's nearly a straight shot to where they're headed.

They're driving in on Tuesday and heading home on Saturday.

Driving in on Tuesday shouldn't be as big of a problem as Thursday/Friday/Saturday. 407 will be slow, but probably OK for the trip they are taking.

I myself still prefer the scenic route.

I think that's the best way. While there will probably be some congestion on Saturday, it'll be nothing compared to the congestion driving through the national park where it is illegal and impossible to pass slow-moving vehicles for most of the way.
