I am sure it is higher than that. They don't include people like me. I don't work, I don't collect enemployment, and I don't need to work. Would I like to have a job? Sure, but with so many people looking for work I keep waiting for things to turn around a bit. Guess it is going to be a very long wait.

I don't think they include people who are self employed or those who do not qualify for any kind of unemployment insurance right? But most people who are self employed are working right? I wonder how they actually count those people?

Comeon 13.8% and driven almost exclusively by government layoffs.

Appears there is a problem with smaller government.

The number was characterized by the economist as basically flat.

Bad news but not terrible.

Really??? Vegas has the highest unemployment rate for a city. Also Vegas has the highest foreclosed rate in the US. I really don't want to rant on Vegas, but who are you kidding???

there are numerous cities with higher unemployment than Las Vegas including our nearest neighbor Riverside CA which is 14.4%.

We do have a high foreclosure rate which makes it a desirable place to move.

What else can I help you understand?

Construction is done (stick it with a fork). That looms large...

There are jobs available, if you don't mind working for less money. Meanwhile, the cost of living continues to rise and the gap is widening every day.

Viva Las Vegas!

See your point. But Riverside has the rest of California to help it. California has hundreds of other cities to help absorb an unemployment impact. What does Vegas have? Vegas only has Reno, Carson City, Henderson, North Las Vegas and a few tiny towns. Not much to help with this kind of impact.
