ReviewJournal.com - Breaking News - Developer: Planned mall development is coming

The article says the developers have been calling it the Streets of Montecito for the past few months, and a hotel is being considered for part of it.

Pass the grain of salt. I would think that ground breaking this coming year would be very unlikely. I am not against it...just not likely. Maybe in 2010 or 2011. Developers are always over optimistic.

I'm with you. Don't hold your breath, as the banks aren't financing anything right now- especially a mall, which relies on people having disposable income (something they don't tend to have much of when they're unemployed).

I do agree, but it could employ thousands. Is it supposed to be like the Town Square? I have been there a couple times, it is nice, but it is never seems busy.

Every time I go to Town Square we have to wait to get seated at Claim Jumper, but the stores do seem empty.

That's great that it would employ thousands, but if there's no one buying, there's not going to be anyone employing.

Default Anything new

I wanted to bring this thread back and see if anyone has any news of interest about this project. All I know is what I see going on when I drive by there, it just looks like it was abandonded. The only progress that I've seen is that they finally cut the ties off the tops of all the palms they planted along grand montecito, but I don't think they finished the irrigation system so all the trees seem to be drying out, some have even fallen over. Someone posted on wikipedia that the company was in default on a 20 million dollar loan. I've heard that the company keeps extending they're plan for completion and now it's up to "maybe" being finished in 2011 depending on the economy. I'd like to hear about anything new going on with this.

NO financing. No time soon. Watch the mall in Summerlin and the one at Alta and Rampart. They will start up first. Maybe a year or two later someone will undertake something on the Great Mall site.

Damn, that's too bad - that's my neck of the woods and I'd love to have such a project nearby...
