It is not that hard to relocate a pig farm. He should take the money and enjoy it. Putting up a last stand to development while he is surrounded is indeed idiotic as already mentioned.
Vic - You got a dosclosure before you bought out there did you not?

I would think that he is not really able to easily move. At the best he will have to leave the valley and he may well have to go a long way. Might be able to open in Apex but I suspect that land is way too expensive and they will resist unless odor is fully controlled which he can do where he is - though at cost that supposedly will put him out of business.
.
With the reputation he is going to have to get at least a couple of miles from anyone else. Long haul by the trucks will not be very popular and the Casinos start looking at other approaches.

I would think he will, in the end, have to just about stop the odor or close down. They will get him with the air quality rules.

Yes, I got a disclosure. I think everybody does.
It won't be too long now til his gone....

Here is a bit of info on NLV

The City of North Las Vegas was incorporated in 1946 and is located in Clark County in Southern Nevada. North Las Vegas encompasses 82.2 square miles and stretches across the northern rim of the Las Vegas Valley. Since 2000, the population has grown by 75.4 percent making North Las Vegas the fastest growing large city in America. Approximately 202,520 residents live in North Las Vegas and approximately 1,200 new residents make North Las Vegas home each month. Estimations put the population at over 521,303 by the year 2020
North Las Vegas, known as the “Community of Choice” continues to be in the spotlight with new master planned communities, recreation, and business opportunities.

Wonder if a name change would help, not as much in the image at it is changing, but to help distinguish this city from Las Vegas

I think Pahrump considered a name change also

So the troll is just trying to stir up controversy when none exists.
I don't think he is a troll. Good for you that you don't smell the pig farm. You're in an area that the smell doesn't appear to travel towards. I have been to plenty of areas that do smell, especially on calm summer days. Most of the areas I remember noticing it the most were along Washburn, well east of the farm. I'm sure it smells in other areas as well. That said, I still think he has the right to be there. He's been there forever. I can't imagine that buyers looked at their future home and didn't smell somthing funny in the air.

I remember having an argument with a friend who was looking at a new home in the area of the smell. He acknowledged the smell, but also said that builder's realtor told him the smell was rare, the farmer was expected to leave soon, and that much of what he was smelling was due to a Sweat Tart's factory that was a couple of miles to the east. This was several years ago when real estate was hot everywhere. His arguement for buying there was the same as the builder's: he's got to go sooner than later. I wonder now that housing has cooled off, does anyone want the land to begin with?

Yep, that pig farm should be able to stay put if he wants to. The guy owns it after all and the land.
Everyone who buys a home near there knows about the pig farm before they buy, then they complain about it afterwards. The developers just want the land to build more homes. Just like they want to get ahold of Gilchrease Orchards and destroy the rest of it for homes.

I really did go to the pig farm a few times, in the heat of summer and other times, and i didn't smell the stench everyone talks about. But the little farm down the street, that stunk! lol

If he did relocate his pig farm, i would suggest out in Mesquite near the cow farm. Its still country, and still not that far away for the casino's to send the leftover food to the pigs.

The Gilcrease Orchards are unfortunate because they are always operating at a loss. They sold the land they did in order to buy more time for the orchard. I know they've been there a longtime, but I can't imagine an orchard as diverse as they are managing to stay forever due to their financial situation and the on-going drought. People have horses all around me. I don't mind it, but on occasion the smell does bother me. Usually I don't ever smell them, but once in a while one neighbor in particular likes to wait too long to clean up and then along comes the smell. I've never gotten used to it, but I knew this when I bought the home. It's no pig farm though.

The smells of the cattle and pigs mix in and in most of the days in a mile or so radius you can smell the poop. The smell is stronger when they "stir up that poop"

At the northern part of the city (NLV), we have master planned communities with golf courses and lush landscaping.
Shadow Creek Golf course (owned by Steve Wynn) is rated in the top five in the WORLD!
The area around Losee and Centennial is near the geographical center of the city boundaries and is expected to be booming with shops and densely populated areas. A Kohl's store just opened recently and access to the beltway is to be made easier in the near years.
A major veteran's hospital, a bigger UNLV campus, and massive casinos are being planned near the northern beltway.

Any of you still think NLV still has an image problem? Would you live there?

yea right! I just moved here from Los Angeles, South Bay to be exact...Let me tell you that I have never seen so many meatheads in one city! Even coming from LA! The drivers are really bad, you can bet on seeing an accident everyday and also several cop cars chasing an idiot or handcuffing some thugs on a routine basis. last week i was caught in the middle of a car chase with 7 patrol cars. the vegas valley pretty much sucks , not just north vegas. you can buy a home in nlv for about $200k OR LESS right now, but be careful of your surroundings. its a wierd atmosphere because much of nlv is fairly new but the thugs live here, it looks like south central LA but with new buildings! then if you want to live in a decent area like summerlin, aliante, etc you have to spend $350k even though most jobs here are 12-15 an hour! so , you are pretty much screwed. i have decided to start saving my pennies to eventually move back to LA so i can at least go out during the summer, enjoy the beach and see mickey mouse on frequent basis! what a mistake, but i can at least say i tried it!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS CRAPHOLE!!!!!
