I think a lot of people are probably saying that about where they chose to live, meaning having a Las Vegas zip code. There are bad places all over Las Vegas, and Henderson, not just North Las Vegas.

Buzz, I think you are supposed to pull to the right side of the road to allow emergency vehicles to pass. I asked my husband who is a firefighter and he agrees that it is the right side. Let's not make it any more dangerous out there for them

I was told by a native Las Vegan that you are actually supposed to pull over as soon as you hear the sirens, regardless if you see the vehicle in the mirror or not. Is that correct? Or maybe that's just out on the highways?

I believe you are correct about that.......pull over....watch for the emergency vehicle then pull back out when safe......

This is also true.... mostly because traffic can be so thick here that sometimes the emegency vehicles are actually almost on top of you before you see them.

Yes, you have to pull over to the farthest right side of the roadway when an emergency vehicle (flashing lights and sirens) is approaching...

When a school bus stops and flashes the red lights (picking up or letting off children) and you are on the opposite side of the road, you don't have to stop if it is a divided highway/roadway...meaning, a median of cement, grass, trees, etc.

[quote=Buzz123;2675554]Here are some more random thoughts on the subject:

OOPS!!! Don't listen to this. 8. Pull to the left and STOP for any approaching emergency vehicles coming from either direction. Then watch out for the guy behind you who will try to cut you off when you pull out again.

Oh sh**, I can't believe I did that. Thanks 5K.

Belay that last order maties. I meant to say pull to the right, not the left. I was seeing myself pulling to the right when I posted it though. Does that count? Is my face red?

If you don't see the vehicle how would you know you weren't pulling over right in front of it and causing an accident? It's a use your head kind of thing. Just get out of their way because where ever they are going is more important than wherever you are going. Another misconception is that if they are on the other side of the road going in the opposite direction that you don't have to stop. Wrong! That only applies if there is a barrier that would completely prevent them from crossing. Low traffic dividers that we've all seem them drive on don't count as a barrier, and although it is actually illegal, even for them, to drive on the divider or come at you on the wrong side of the road, they do it for good reason and no one cares to enforce that law. That's why it is important to just stop until they get past you. I don't remember this being the law where I came from in my yoot, and last Fall I drove down the eastern side of the country and I was the only one I saw who ever bothered to yield the right-of-way to a siren.

It isn't really an enfocable law here (in regards to emergency vehicles). Most people do it out of common courtesy however. In places like Manhattan, it is vitually impossible to move over, and people will pull over to the left if it's a one way street. (you gotta go where you can go).

I'm a little surprised about the school bus thing. Here in NY it is the law (and very inforceable in fact) that ALL lanes stop for a school bus. No matter which side of the road you are on, or what's in the middle of the road. The only exception to this is if the bus is waiting outside a house, and if (and only if) the driver of the bus motions to you to procede.
