Weather forecast is for rain. Would they run the race if it rained?
Doubt it will, but you never know!

My wife is always watching for hotel deals on the strip. Recently some hotels have been slashing room rates (down from crazy prices leading up to this event). Is it because they can't fill rooms?

Looks like a 6% chance of rain. Yes they will run in the rain with rain tires.

Are they going to tear down all the gigantic infrastructure they built for the race, afterward (and the rebuild it again next year)?

Yes everything will be removed except for the paddock building.

There are a number of videos on YouTube, both pro and con about the upcoming event.

The companies explained it in their recent earnings calls. The high end rooms are mostly holding up because the people who want to attend the race and are willing to pay thousands to do it don't want to stay in a low-end hotel. So Wynn and the higher-end of MGM supposedly are not lowering their prices much. However, the managements said half the visitors during the week don't even care about the race much and probably have heard how much of a mess it will be. So those rooms are now at rather low rates just to keep them full.

So my point about the race chasing away normal LV tourists appears to be valid.

It will be interesting to see how full the grandstands are for the race.
