You don't have to watch it but 100k people did. The video is spot on, the event is a benefit to a few corporations and organizations and a detriment to most. The Strip engine is getting really good at doing this. There used to be some pushback on things that would disadvantage the locals and they wouldn't dare try to win approval on these from voters because they would get their rear ends kicked in the polls. Now just pay off some lawmakers and get your union bosses behind it and no one wins but the few.

The F1 race is going to pass right by The Sphere which
Quote:
"will sit inside the track near Turns 5, 6 and 7 – adjacent to a fan area with both general admission and grandstand seating called “T-Mobile Zone at Sphere.” That zone will be the main area for concerts and other entertainment during the weekend."
The Sphere will get global recognition from the event.

The CNBC business channel had one of its on-air hosts (Sarah Eisen) in LV for the race, several videos on YouTube, here's one of them.

Here's a page with a ton of details about the event.

I'm curious if F1 is paying the casinos. Like the ones that are draining the fountains for the grandstands and encroaching onto their property.

I hear they've hung large black tarps around the course so non-paying locals can't see the race. My first reaction to that was 'ya gotta be kidding me.'

From the NY Times:

F1 in Las Vegas: A Roaring Spectacle for Fans, but a Huge Headache for Locals

The flashy adult playground shrouds itself in black tarp to block views of the racing spectacle from prying (unticketed) eyes. Its transformation has become a long-term, costly nuisance for locals.

On Saturday night, Formula One racecars will be hurtling down the Las Vegas Strip and buzzing past towering casinos, just outside the convenience store where Ms. Jones sells vape cartridges and energy drinks to tourists. But race organizers have shrouded the Strip in black tarp and fencing, and covered the glass on pedestrian walkways with white film and floodlights, obscuring the festivities from those without a $1,000 ticket.

“They blocked it,” Ms. Jones said, looking out her front doors at a line of tarp-covered fence. “We can’t see nothing.”

Race and county officials described the barriers and film as safety measures to protect the public and drivers. But to workers and small-business owners, it is the latest indignity of a monthslong construction project that has turned the Strip into a racetrack, while also causing huge headaches.

Randy Markin, owner of Battista’s Hole in the Wall, an old-school Italian restaurant in the middle of the construction, said revenue has fallen by about $6,000 a night.Credit...

I watched a random Vegas You Tuber; It was alot of fun and conversion in chat, even at the practice race.
Then, the You Tuber got a strike for having music on in the background---Copyright Strike...
