Surprised no one has mentioned this yet. This seems to be taking over The Strip. Are people out there happy about this, or is it just a major annoyance?

Locals absolutely hate it to the point it may be moved off Strip or who knows where next year. My guess is the first year was the one they had to do the most work and next year it could be much more manageable. Still anyone working on the Strip is going to lose it once they close the Strip down before it begins.

Once they get all the road projects done it's shouldn't be as bad next year, but they'll still have to shut down the Strip. That is a major pain for anyone that works down there. It will bring in a lot of revenue for the city, and of course, the hotels.

We don't go down to the Strip very often so we just avoid it for the time being. I think it would be fun to go to if you like racing and don't mind paying the high prices. It will be interesting to see how the attendance is for race and the events planned for that weekend.

I'm sure the residents of Monaco have the same gripes and that F1 race has been going on since 1929, with very little change to the layout of the track.

Supposedly it takes 6 weeks to setup for the Monaco Grand Prix and 3 weeks to break it all down.

I understand your point, but just to be clear, The Strip & its resorts are not in any city; they are in unincorporated areas.

Just change "city" to "county" and it works. It should pump up general economic activity. But there's a tradeoff here. It will attract a good number of people, but people who just want to come to Vegas for normal Vegas entertainment/activities will be turned off by the disruption.

My guess is those people will merely accelerate or delay their trip by a week or so.

And yes, there is disruption. For example, last night we saw Iliza Schlesinger, the stand-up comic, at Encore in the northern part of The Strip. We traveled from the south, going under the freeway using the exit off 215, continuing north on what is now University Center Drive, making a left (west) turn on Harmon and a right turn on Paradise, left on Convention Center, and left into Encore self-parking. The backup due to construction on northbound University Center Drive south of Harmon was an extra 5-10 minutes, although it seemed like an eternity.

More likely they wouldn't know anything about the event when looking at making future vacation plans, just that it was harder to book than normal in the first place. A few who are able to shift their vacation dates might change. Others will just find someplace else to go.

One thing they might notice is hotel prices substantially higher than expected. They started out way higher (thousands) but have come down more recently.
