I lived in a 70's style high rise in Minneapolis for 5 years, and back then the walls were poured concrete, which they don't do in the newer high rises. I was also on the 38th floor for awhile, and it was so eerily quiet, didn't even hear the sirens!

I watched them build Turnberry Place and I didn't see any poured concrete walls between the units.

I had a massage client in Minneapolis who lived at The Towers, built in the early 60's. With all his $$ he could have lived in one of the flashier, pricier condo buildings in Minneapolis, and he explained to me why he bought there: 12 inch concrete floors (nowadays they can get by with 7 inches) and poured concrete walls between the units, better than cinder block walls.

I spoiled myself traveling thru Latin America as I never stayed in a stick-built motel/hotel anywhere down there, and a good many places had rooftop decks, even in the 2 & 3 star hotels.

The lumber companies in this country are powerful lobbyists in Washington and I don't believe developer's false propaganda for one minute, that's it's so much more expensive to build with concrete. Brush fires consuming any number of homes in Southern California, they love it, and laugh all the way to the bank! Or a house getting eaten up by termites in the South!

Freezing and rainy here in the NW! Glad to be here though! I haven't been here since October and that's a long time for me! Just wish I didn't decide to wash rugs and dry them outside! LOL!

Stands for extended benefit transfer. It's a debit card the government issues to some people who receive public assistance. The amount the person receives each month is added to their account and then thy can use the card to purchase goods or get cash out.

What do you guys/gals think of this?

Pawn shop manager who fatally shot intruder speaks out to Action News - www.ktnv.com (http://www.ktnv.com/news/local/139418128.html - broken link)

This guy had a gun pointed at his face by a robber so he shot the guy. He then got fired from his job. I think Superpawn should be boycotted. I would have done the same thing he did.

You have to realize that this is the Las Vegas forum. So when we say we live in the NW, North, South, etc, we are just referring to parts of the valley. It would be different if this were the Nevada forum. Then North would be up by Elko or Reno.

Well, it looks like the police chief in Henderson, a woman, may lose her job over this incident of the police kicking and beating that diabetic who they mistook for a drunk driver. And yet, the sargeant who was caught doing some of the kicking, will retain his job!

What do you think, who should lose their job over this incident?
