I'd like to see the hood rats AFFORD the taxes too ... that's up to the absentee slumlords of flophouses, but only in areas where they can get away with what they do. If they rent a house to a single family, they most likely aren't going to make a profit and pay the property taxes at the same time.
Ha! I'd like to see them "PAY" taxes, period. Even if they could AFFORD them, there is nothing to say they will PAY them - you want 'em, come to da hood and git 'em. In dos meen time, me and my peeps will be cruzin in the Esclade with da Krystal and R Kelly comin out the doors.
We are talking about property taxes.
If they don't pay the taxes, they will lose their home and will be living in their Escalade.
I'm more surprised to be seeing places on Long Island described as flophouses and slums. Yeah, Wyandanch, Hempstead, and Roosevelt are run down, working class, have a large minority population, and are experincing gang problems, but they are NOTHING like actual slums like northeast and southwest Detroit, Camden NJ, and South Central LA.

As the flophouse mentioner, I can honestly say a flophouse can end up anywhere there is no government oversight on turning single-family homes into boardinghouses.
As for the areas you mentioned, I will honestly have to take your word on that because I've never been to any of them and cannot compare their "slumminess" to any LI "slumminess."
To this day, I never thought an area with an average household income of around $100,000 and being inside a good performing school district would be called a ghetto.
Only on Long Island. Only on Long Island
