all the opinions here are very good & valid, but the only person who can decide where they should live is YOU. nobody can make that decision, they can just give you advice. also, to some people, the neighborhood that you have chosen to live in can be good, but to others it can be bad. when you pick a home in long island in the town that you like, the best thing to do is to go to that town a few times & check it out for yourself. before we made a decision to buy a house in lindenhurst, we came there 4 times, talked to a few people about the neighborhood, ate in a few places & then realized that this town is perfect for us. it might not be for somebody else, but it's perfect for us. i'm very glad to have other people's opinions here, it helped me make my decision & saved me from making the wrong one. at first, we were looking at a house in ronkonkoma & didn't know that this town has low income housing & an airport. once i read the replies of some people here & we saw that ronkonkoma has low class people, we decided to go with lindenhurst, which was the right decision for us. i want to thank everybody here who is a member for writing your views about every town. you can save other people from spending their life savings on a house that they might regret buying later on. once again, thanks & i can't wait to be a member of lindenhurst town & community.
Every community has low class people in it. There is nothing wrong with most of Ronkonkoma. Connetquot SD is a good school district. The airport is really a non-starter. Lindenhurst is near Republic Airport and while its not an airport with scheduled service it does have air traffic.
i have a question for site members out there. i was told that long island water was dirty & gives women breast cancer. is that true? is having a filter at home enough to drink the water? do i need an inground filter as well? is water in lindenhurst clean?
My wife works for Suffolk county water and says the water is up to strict standards. Stay away from well water...never drink from the tap in places like Fire Island...you will die.
Everywhere else is completely fine...not sure where you're getting your information.

They test it at SCWA and it is awful. Also places that do their own water sometimes have larger issues because of lesser standards. Greenlawn got into trouble not too long ago.
