Has anyone else been dealing with cave crickets in their homes? I moved into a house in Port Washington this year and I've been seeing these things since the hurricane, pretty much. I continue to see and kill them in my basement with some regularity.
I've tried making sure that the vents (dryer vent) and other openings to the outside are sealed. I've tried running the dehumidifier (even though the basement doesn't feel damp) because I've read they like damp areas.
Has anyone else been dealing with these cave crickets? Has anyone had success in getting rid of them? Thanks.
IN a little while the hard freeze should kill them off but I would put duct tape down sticky side up, that will catch a bunch and also DIATOMACEOUS EARTH sprinkled around the foundation should do the trick.
Once we finished most of our basement they were greatly reduced but this time of year (when it starts to get cold) a few seem to pop up here and there. They sure are nasty suckers.
Are those those things that jump and move around incredibily fast? I had them in my old house.
Home Depot sells insect "traps" (basically a piece of cardboard with an adhesive on one side) that worked pretty well for me. You might want to give them a try.
My mom has camel crickets in her basement, she uses Arrow exterminating and glue traps. In the colder months they aren't so bad but once the weather get warmer they seem to get worse. They like dark and damp places.
They get worse when its colder! they want to get indoors when its cold. I killed 2 last week in my bathroom. lord knows how many my dogs get when im gone.

Oh I did not know that. Well I saw one jump in my mom's basement the other day and it freaked me out. Not going down her basement any time soon.
Yeah I've seen those in my basement, big nasty things. I found two of them and sprayed them with Raid. They were jumping all over the place and then they started to jump slower and slower until they just stopped. I felt bad, but what are you gonna do? Don't want them nasty buggers hangin' out in my house.
