Up eight hundo. Just won a grievance for '13-'14 though so hopefully the taxes should remain the same next go-around (or decrease!)

Also checked a home I'd put an offer on in Roslyn Harbor (NS District again).

Up $535. Assessed value remains the same.

If yours went down more in relation to the rest of your hood, they could (and do) go down. I've had that happen one year (amazingly) although they didn't drop by much and were after a sizable spike. Or if someone builds a skyscraper (lol) or say a mall in your district worth billions, that would also lower your taxes by quite a bit.

There's no getting through to the unions however. The only bright spots I see are enrollments are dropping 1-2% every year as people are having less kids. That combined with the 2% cap should hopefully control the school tax situation.
Good point on dropping enrollments and school district savings via eliminating teacher positions. Might have more to do with less young families moving in than on couples having less children.

It's really more to do with the baby boomers reaching the end of their child bearing years. There's less people of child bearing age, therefore there's less children.

If anyone really thinks that translates to getting rid of teachers, they haven't lived on LI that long. Our old schools have less classes than they used to per grade, but if you look hard enough, you'll find all the teachers are still there lurking in special ed classrooms or teaching "technology" and things like that.

There are definitely alot less kids on LI than there used to be. Elementary schools have been closing since 2008/09. This year alone 12 were to be closed. Also they have been excising teachers left and right for the past 4-5 years. To get a job on LI right now you have to know somebody or be extremely lucky.

See that's the point...even with less teachers and schools, school taxes are at an all time high and continues to go up

I played poker at a friend house and he was complaining about his 15K tax bill but he has a 12,000 sqf home with a 4 car garage on 15 acres, with a pool, pond, tennis and a basketball court. Imagine what he would be paying on L.I.

What's an extra $800 or so in taxes? SMALL price to pay to be so close to the greatest city in the world and only 15 minutes from the beach - come on folks!
