Oh dear.

Seems like there's much more going on here than an opinion on what HHI constitutes UMC.

One thing being left out here is the "Stated Income/2 +-50%" factor that is very common on our island. That is that you have to divide the number that is stated by 2, plus or minus 50% of that number, and you may then actually have a somewhat less inflated representation of the actual income. A 30 yr mtg payment on 900k at 4% is 4200, then lets say you have 24k in tax, thats 6200. So if you make 400k, 150 goes to uncle sam, 74k goes to the mtg and propety tax, any you spen 3k on whatever else for the month. That leaves you with 100k left, after you put 10% into savings. The point of this? 400k salaray is a lot of money, its second home money not ranch in roslyn/rvc money.

Its not what you make, its what you save.
No. That's not what the topic is about. It does matter what you make and what you save.

Just because you make 80k and save a large portion of your income, it doesn't make you upper-middle class on LI.

I wish. 400k puts a small addition on your home and increases your taxes to 30k a year.

I would actually be curious if loving to travel is more of a female thing. Of course there are men who love it as well, but my father, husband and my sister's husband all loathe it.

I think they are nuts. There's so much out there to see, love and appreciate.
