Big India and Guyanese community in Bellerose, Glen Oaks, area of Queens. Very diverse and welcoming.

When I was looking at the house i saw the children playing out side and they were all of different shades. Just playing and having fun.

That was the reason I moved here 15 yr ago and never had a single problem with anyone.

Lots of outdated ideas. I am a product of the white flight decades so I understand how it was but as a LI shnook dad and husband I am seeing the demographics change rapidly. Others have said it. LI is a somewhat superficial place. Color and ethnicity are mattering less and less if the lawn is neat, the cars are late (or mid) model, the kids are in school and local activities and there are no goats on the lawn. Everyone is stuggling equally or propering equally these days and struggle makes strange (and good) neighbors. I am in Levittown, the 'deed stipulated' white capital of suburbia and my son's little league team is as diverse as my 70's HS soccer team in Brooklyn and Brooklyn was dangerously racist ie, don't be caught dead in the wrong neighborhood or you would be going home in an ambulance.

Moderator cut: This is a great post, but the use of perjorative ethnic names is against the ToS

All overtaxed and playing baseball together on Saturday morning. THAT'S what makes New York great!! Wantagh is fine.
