At the risk of annoying everyone who lives in LA, how about Phoenix? It is even more multi-nodal than LA (in fact, I would say it is non-nodal). It's mountainous. Angelenos may not think it has a year-round climate, but the locals think it does. It's diverse, or at least biracial--Anglos and Mexicans. And it's full of people from Los Angeles.

Phoenix definately can be compared to LA to a certain extent, but the whole surfer culture is missing. Beach communities are a large part of LA.

Default I always described...

Houston as LA without any scenery and about 1/10 the cost of living. Both incredibly poorly planned, but at least in LA you can see mountains most of the time and there are still a few acres of public beach that don't have every square inch of property developed. Great climate in LA.

Houston is possibly the most physically unappealing city anywhere - hot, humid, un-zoned, and with just as much freeway sprawl as LA. It wouldn't even exist had a hurricane not wiped out Galveston at the turn of the century. That said... well, I don't like a whole lot about Houston

Atlanta is called the LA of the East. minus the ocean and earthquakes. Tons of Cali people live in the Atl metro.

NOVA: Diverse. Traffic. Sprawl.
Except the weather sucks.

Are you sure about that? I can think of several cities that are like LA.

Mexico City - It has a large film/tv industry just like Los Angeles except in Spanish. It has mountains, beaches, sunny weather, and people look just the ones in LA. Except the difference is alot of women are natural blondes in Mexico.

Sydney, Austrailia - Mountains? Check. Film industry? Check. Beaches? Check. Sunny weather? Check. Blondes and fake boobs? Check.

Auckland, New Zealand - With the exception of the blondes and boobs, everything same as above check.

Miami - With the exception of mountains. Check!!

Houston - With the exception of the massive film industry and mountains - check!

San Antonio - Yes we have mountains and half of our residents are from LA and it looks just like LA with the exception of palm trees and film industry! Yes check!!

LA is so huge it can't be replicated. But I think certain neighborhoods resemble each other. Like upper Manhattan and West LA. Same people, same bs.

Every other city in California reminds me of LA. Seattle and Portland also seemed very LA, as did Vegas and Phoenix.
