LA's shortness seems to be a matter of ethnicity mostly. In DC, men of all races are short and the common joke is that it's because the city attracts all the Napoleon complexes due to the political opportunities. Maybe show biz in LA works the same.

BTW, Scandinavians in the Midwest are not as tall on average as everyone thinks. And not as blond. 5'9" is probably average for a male out here.

Given that LA is a much larger hispanic and Asian population than many other cities average people are a little shorter, than say Chicago where you have a higher % of German ancestry, etc.

NO. I am over 6 ft and I find that in most crowds around here, I am one of the taller people around. It is a shorter city on the whole. A lot of shorties (men that is, women it is to be expected).

We are giants. If you are less than 6'0" you will be someone for me to stomp on, literally and figuratively.

That is pretty much it.

Now, if this question had been asked back in say 1950, the answer would have reflected the effects of the "California Danes" and the many Iowans moving into the area.

That was then, this is now.

6'5" Los Angeles native checking in. I'm also a black male, if such a thing is relevant.

It is. Blacks and Nordic/Germanic whites are the tallest. While a significant population of LA is black or Nordic/Germanic they are in the minority.

Boy, I'm glad this thread is only about height and not intelligence level or something like that.

I've noticed people in LA Hispanic, white, African-American, and Asian are shorter compared to their east coast counterparts. It's noticeably shorter.
