Some people care more about owning than living in a hip area .

If you own long term then mortgage payment can start to look cheap versus rent .

Lots of buildings in LA are old and the owners bought them much cheaper than market value .
For a while during the crash it was cheaper to buy versus rent , especially in some areas .

During the crash lots of people could of bought at relatively good prices but they chose not to.
I'm sure a lot are kicking themselves now as prices have doubled or more in some areas , within about 6 years or less .
Los Angeles has really high housing cost.

A small house like this would be $600,000 in LA.

A $600,000 house would get you big house some where else!!

A really big house like this in LA would be over a million!!!

Does Los Angeles not have high rent like $2,000 or $3,000 a month?

Homeless and people coming up to you and asking you for money may be problem in LA and may be more so than most cities in the US.

But things like gangs, shootings and people getting shot is more a really big concern in LA. Like to get stats on how many people get shot in day in LA.

In the 90's there where places cops would not go with out at least 4 back up units or more.

Rent in LA starts at pretty much $1,500 and goes up around $80,000.

Honestly those houses look like they're in crap areas and would sell for $350k to $500k in Compton or East LA.

The $2,000 to $3,000 should get you two bedroom, one bathroom, kitchen.

A $3,000 to $4,000 should get you three bedroom, one bathroom, kitchen.

Realtor.com reports about 1000 properties for sale in the City of LA for under 400k.

But probably not the ones you want, I guess.
