So I've been collecting VHS tapes for a while (which might strike some of you as an odd and/or dumb hobby because it's an obsolete format, but it's fun and it's cheap). So far, I've only had luck finding them at Goodwills and various thrift stores. However, the selection is pretty picked over because it's LA and the ebay flippers / vintage store hipsters get there bright and early.

Does anyone have any tips on some reliable flea markets or stores in general that might carry some? I am open to traveling to Orange County, The Valley, and any of the towns surrounding LA if anyone has any good tips.

Anyway, any help would be much appreciated!

Have you looked at eBay? There's 388,985 available right this minute.

Really I think if you just knocked on the door of and random Metro LA 20th century track home you would hit pay dirt. Have fun and make a day of it. A subdivision where lots of retired baby boomers live.

Thrift Shops usually have an entire wall of them. They can't even give them away.

I'd say try other thrift stores , not sure if going early always helps as many of the stores seem to put stuff out throughout the day .

Use yelp to search for different thrift stores

Possible garage sales too but that could be hit or miss .

Another idea might be to place wanted ads on Craigslist .
There are also lots of local buy/sell apps now like OfferUp , Letgo etc .
What kind of VHS do you usually collect ?

most Goodwill and Salvation Army stores won't even take them from people because they take up too much space and they don't make money.

Only some VHS is worth good money of course those are the rare ones . Some random horror films that never made it on to DVD can be worth a lot but Goodwill and Salvation Army might not put stuff like that in their stores even because the covers can be pretty gory and graphic .

Some wrestling VHS can be worth good money too I heard .

Yard sales? Sometimes neighborhoods organize a mass sale that could net you some of these relics.
