This is kind of interesting. Especially since it wouldn't reach Sherman Oaks.

---
Residents in Sherman Oaks say Metro has not been ambitious enough with its plans for a dedicated, 9.2-mile public transit line between the city of San Fernando in the north and the Orange Line to the south.
Members of the Sherman Oaks Homeowners Association, which touts itself as representing “2,300 politically active families,” suggested in a letter sent to Metro on Tuesday that the public transportation agency should seriously consider building a subway along the full-length of the proposed line, known as the East San Fernando Valley Transit Corridor project.

What's more interesting IMO is the connector of the purple line to the orange line - right under Sherman Oaks. That would be awesome!

What these "civic-minded" individuals can't understand is that tunneling is one of the most expensive forms of construction; the link below might be overstating its case, but I guarantee you that on a per-mile basis. a subway line will cost several times as much as a light rail (streetcar) system serving the same route.

Too bad they weren't leading the cause in the 80s or else the Orange Line would be light rail right now through the South Valley. Probably would have gone underground closer to NoHo too. Much more likely to have been hooked up into Burbank, Glendale, and Pasadena as an expansion too. How much better would that have been.

After all, it really shouldn't matter how many billions of dollars it would cost if it will make 2,300 politically active families happy I reckon.

LOL. True.

What they should ask is:

"How many of you 2300 families make use of public transportation?"

"How often do you 2300 families use public transportation on a weekly/daily basis?"

My guess is that ZERO to maybe 6 families will answer yes to the first question, all with caveat of "Oh, its only my teenage son who sometimes use it".
