Funny you should consider bicyclists sociopathic as a group based on common stupid-human behaviors:

... because motorists don’t do stupid things ... constantly ... all day long. Everywhere.

Driving in the bike lane is its own violation (CVC 21209) and has nothing to do with crossing solid white lines. Both that and crossing a double yellow are moving violations that'll cost you approx $500 and a point.

More dangerous? Really? Think about it. A car making an illegal pass to the left risks a head on collision -- car vs car, airbag vs airbag. At 40 mph there's a chance of survival, depending on vehicle types, angle of collision, safety features in each car, etc. A car making an illegal pass to the right into risks running over a cyclist, who is all but certain to be killed.

A week doesn't go by(usually in the Silverlake area) where I don't see some idiot riding at night in dark clothing with no reflectors/lights on the bike. Also seem them wearing earbuds and even texting.

You see the bikes ride in the road, most of the pedestrians I see on are on the sidewalk.

I didn't say that, so don't put words in my mouth. I said if you're going to ride a bike in LA, have a bike with lights on it. wear something bright, no earbuds, and follow the rules of the road. It's in their best interest, because again the car is going to win in an accident, not the cyclist.

No driver wants to hit anyone, but I at least once a week complete carelessness on the part of a bike rider. And they're not all young people, they're people who look middle aged and should know better at that stage in life.

A smart cyclist rides like everyone in a car is out to kill you. Not assume people see you, because you can see them, and your hearing is important, not listening to music.

Don’t know what words you think I was putting in your mouth, Sean. What you preach is obvious common sense safety. My point in response was: yeah, so what? There are all kinds of brain-dead people all over doing all kinds of brain-dead things. They get to walk. They get to drve. Why would bicycling be any different?

You have a valid point, we have all kinds of brain dead people out and about.

I guess my point is I can't help but notice on how many of them ride bicycles here.

We all certainly come into contact with more cars than anything else, and overall I find LA drivers(and I have stated this before) to be pretty good and courteous compared to other places.

But the bike riders......LOL. It's like they have a death wish.

I live in Minneapolis and the same thing happened here. Bicyclists act like they own the road. They refuse to move to the side to allow cars to pass. Traffic here has gotten really bad and the city isn't spending any money on it. Instead, they're increasing bike lanes on roads instead.

The reason this is so frustrating is that bicyclists are NOT obeying the laws of the road. They're still running stop signs, no turn signals, etc., If bicyclists want to share the road, then they should have to obey the same traffic laws and get licenses so they can help PAY for the roads as well as be identified (turned in) for NOT obeying the laws.

As long as you're paying attention all of this wouldn't be a concern, but many don't like to pay attention. Bikes are good for the environment, and for the traffic congested streets. I wonder if all the hate is due to people not being open minded, and trying to embrace something new.

It was a story about two drivers in Sacramento who stopped along the freeway to fight eachother. One chased the other with a bat and killed him along the shoulder ... the surviving lunatic was then hit and killed by a passing car.

There’s really nothing unique about the bad behavior you are complaing about. It’s what people do, each in their respective venues. A bunch of wild-ass baboons in cars, on bikes, on foot ...
