Silverlake's a beautiful neighborhood. I checked it out yesterday. In LA's typical anti-New York fashion, it is very un-urban. You'll see lots of narrow, tree-lined residential streets, with single family style homes dotting the hillsides. Silverlake borders on Los Feliz, which is similar in vibe, but a bit more upscale. Some of the steepest hills this side of San Francisco can be found here; I experienced that thrilling (and somewhat terrifying) feeling that my car was going to flip over and slide down backwards while tackling one of the steep grades.

The "lake" is a fenced-in reservoir which is being renovated for pedestrian access. There's a work-in-progress pedestrian and bike trail being built around it. I took the walk yesterday and it felt great. Lots of interesting people to meet and watch, especially around the dog park. It's a pleasant and unpolluted area brimming with subtropical flowers and clementine trees in some yards. The air quality was great from what I could tell- then again, winter is the time when LA's air is generally best.

Can you tell that I like the place?

Thanks a lot, that surely is a nice photo.

BTW, speaking to driving on steep slopes. Is it equally steep and somehow scary driving the roads in Topanga?

Did you find nice social activities in Silver Lake?
