I would like to re-ask the original post since I too am looking to get hitched in the greater San Luis Obispo area sometime next year. Budget is mid-range, with about 150-200 people. Somewhere outdoor, nothing snoody. ie no golf clubs or hotels. Thanks much in advance.

We were married at what was then the Catalina Room, which was one of the venues offered by the New York Food Catering Co. It no longer exists (it was torn down for condos ), but they have another awesome venue we wanted, but wasn't available on our date; La Venta Inn, which is up in the hills of Palos Verdes, overlooking the South Bay and Malibu. On a clear day you can see all the way up to the Channel Islands off of Santa Barbara.

Everything about our event was incredible and amazing, so I would definitely recommend them. I wouldn't categorize them as inexpensive, but they were in line with all the other venues we looked at, as well.

I was married on Catalina Island, it was gorgeous - on a cliff overlooking the ocean.

I'm too worried about the marine layer to have a beach wedding... with my luck it would be foggy and cold for the ceremony!

So I visited Calamigos Ranch up in Agoura Hills and was really impressed with it! Anyone have experience with planning/attending a wedding here?

No, only as a camper. If you are interested in the Calabasas area you might look into the Westlake Inn. Both outside and inside venues.

Questions for the folks asking advice:

What is your budget? Don't be vague, "mid-range" is vague.
Where do you live? This is important because, if you do the wedding far from where you live, you have to include a place to stay at least for you and your spouse and possibly even for your wedding party.

For the poster who is thinking about places near or in San Luis Obispo, you should look up Los Olivos, Santa Ynez Valley, Solvang and Buellton. If budget is not a problem, there's also Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo themselves. There are wineries, inns and bed and breakfasts gallore that do weddings in the cities listed.

So, that ended up being a heck of a recommendation. Visited the Westlake Village Inn over the weekend and it looks like that's where we are going to have our wedding! Thanks osuzana!!!
