One more thing....what exactly is the purpose of "hiking sticks"? Are they necessary?

Well, some people use them for...hiking. I rarely have. I think they're supposed to be helpful for balance and such. But on the occasions when I've used a stick I just found a piece of dead branch and broke it to the appropriate length. I could never bring myself to actually pay money for a *stick*, even if it *was* all nicely varnished.

Now that I've thought about it for a while, there *is* something I would like for Xmas- a new .22 lever-action rifle. Ammunition has been getting pricey lately (even when making my own cartridges) so I'd like something that costs a little less to feed.

I have wore the cheapest boots available for many years. And I have began to develop the appropriate issues with my feet.

My DW's employer supplies her with steel toe work shoes twice each year. They have a contract with Redwing in Brewer. She loves them.

I went there once after hearing my DW praise their sales staff.

They have two different machines to analyse your feet to match you with the most appropriate boot.

I do not think that I will ever buy boots from any other source.

Another vote for Redwing! LL Bean hiking boots hurt my feet; Lands End makes a decent boot that is comfortable and affordable. You just can't beat Redwings.

My DH list to "Santa" includes things like
  • Home Depot GC
  • Tools tools and more tools
  • Snow Blower
  • Plow ( he found an older man selling his mini truck and plow for 600.00 and bought that last week. It's over to a garage being "tweaked".)
  • A million dollars
  • A larger garage with a heater.

My DH and I don't exchange gifts. If we want or need anything, we usually just go get it. Instead we will take off and go somewhere together for a few days.

My men in Maine:

My #1. My son - always snowmobile accessories or bass fishing supplies. Last yr it was a new heated shield for his helmet, new super-duper boots and gas cards for his sled. This year, more gas cards and a gift certificate to Bass Pro Shop.

My #2. My dad - still thinking... I'll probably wait until my parents get down here to the Gulf coast in January and take them out for a nice dinner and bring them a nice bottle of Glenn Livet. (sp?)

My #3 & 4- my 2 nephews.... ages 8 & 10. Something snowboard related.

Done!

Please share so that I can better equip MY Maine Man this year!!
Wool socks, a good book, and a new bottle of Bushmill's, and it's Merry Christmas.

A backhoe is really the biggest thing on our need list.

My want list is likewise a short list. An intimate evening with the Dw.

My honey always says not to buy him Xmas gifts, but he won't kick away a motorized ice auger if it appeared under the tree. If I won the lottery I know he would expect me to get a Yamaha Rhino that we both could use!
