"There are 2 classes or bikers. Those who ride just to enjoy the scenery and have a good time, and those morons who cause people to hate bikers."
I wonder which group fellas with loud straight pipes fall into?

I've got Screaming Eagle II for my bike. Not much louder than stock but definitely cleaner flowing with improved performance along with a carb re-jet.

I'm the guy in the right lane doing the speed limit, with both tires on the ground.
I'm not wizzing up the highway doing over 100, or doing a wheelie down the street. Why own a Harley? Why not?

I've been riding a bike for a little over 37 years, and nothing annoys me more than some dope on a rice rocket doing triple digits down the road a passing between cars in traffic.
You're right ClownShoes. Not all straight pipe owners are bar jockeys and not all straight pipe owners blast them at full rpms through quiet neighborhoods at 1 am like many do in my city.
However, seeing as my hometown of Bristol, CT reportedly has the largest number of registered Harley owners of any zip code east of the Mississippi (approx 1200 out of 60,000 residents) we're bound to have a few yahoos.

I don't care if you have ridden for 37 years or 37 minutes straight pipes are obnoxious on ANY bike. AND Illegal. You should do us all a favor and comply with the law.

Yeah, I want to know too.
Maineah, by the way, see if Beth Edmonds has any opinion on the noise in Freeport. She is in the library there you know. My brother got cited for loud exhaust on his truck a few years ago here in Maine. The police seem to ignore bikers' noise for some reason.

Well, you are probably aware of this, but it is simply the image. No hard-core biker is going to drive a Yamaha. A Triumph or Indian, maybe.
What I don't understand is that isn't the bike loud to the rider as well? Or is it like a jet airplane (standing in front of the plane is not as loud as standing behind it)?

I'm going to pursue this a little more. There is no reason on earth that any motorcycle should be allowed to have an exhaust with no muffler or silencer on it! Cars can't do it... Bikes shouldn't be able to do it either! Maybe a few $500.00 fines will convince the straight pipe enthusaist to smarten up and put a muffler on it! First offense defect tag. Second offense $250.00 fine, Third $500.00, Fourth they haul your registration!
