What's with all the freakin' vanity license plates around Maine? Particularly Knox County...seems like every other vehicle has some dumb, cutesy vanity plate. I think they're dumb. Why do people pay more license fees for dumb vanity plates? Are they really that 'vain'? Am I just a curmudgeon?

Default curmudgeon!

LOL! Yes, I must be THAT vain! My last one read "ISLEAHO". Before that it read "I LA HO" but most people didn't get it so I changed it.

Years ago I had one that read "IOGMAC" and my DH's said "IOGMAC2".

It's a Maine thing. I love the new Maine sportsmans plate, btw! My son just put one on his new truck. Very fitting.

Personally, I love trying to figure out what they say!

Great thread, shuffler!

Now everyone should tells us about the best ones you've seen.

You figured it out. We've created them just to tick you off. You're welcome!

A friend of ours designed the agricultural plates. She worked hard to get this through. I have them on my vehicle. They've earned $100,000 for MAITCA so far.

My plate used to say SEAWOLF. It was my call sign long ago and far away.

Registering our vehicles cost so much more in Ct, when we moved to Maine, we were really shocked to see how much cheaper it is to register here.

In Ct a 'veteran' plate would cost $40 and says 'veteran'.

In Maine a 'veteran' plate costs $25 and has your pick of any of your combat medals on it.

I had never seen plates with combat medals on them, I liked the idea, so we now have veteran plates on our newer cars.

We have vanity plates too.... Calais is actually one of the Maine towns with the highest percentage of vanity plates. It's a nice way to get a little braggy without coming right out and bragging... although one of ours isn't really bragging, much. It's a tidbit of personality

so, ayuh, you're being a curmudawhatever.... it's just something fun to do
