The northeast has a substantial Puerto Rican population. But they're American. And they've been there since the 1950s.
Gaithersburg area has a lot of Hispanics, and they're all over PG County. In some public schools, they're the majority. No so 20 years ago.
But they're Latino.
Puerto Ricans are very...Puerto Rican. They're extremely bold in their Boricua-ness. I do find them to be a bit more Americanized in Philly but not so much elsewhere. They're pretty darn identifiable., they were my understanding of "Latino" growing up they're just very different than the Central Americans in MD.
Regardless, there as many Dominicans as Puerto Ricans in the NYC, Boston, and Providence MSAs. As well as many Central Americans South Americans. (Guatemala, Honduras, Salvador, Ecuador, Peru)
I lived in PG there were definitely latinos around but still I don't think Maryland is being undercounted anymore than anywhere else really. Just based off having lived in Maryland, CT and MA. Probably more likee 12.5-13% latino today.
The data is what it is. What galls me is when the media reports on stuff like this. Whenever the white share is declining, they're giddy with excitement. Because, diversity. But whenever the minority share is declining, they wring their hands about racism and lack of diversity. The racist hypocrisy of these media sources is greatly annoying to me.
What the heck media are you reading? Sure you're not just projecting your own insecurity on, you know, threads like this?
Yeah, okay. So, in your mind, why has U.S. (or is it worldwide?) media conspired to be anti-white? Is this a blame the "globalists" thing?
You and I both know this is right wing dribble.
My Mother can't wake up for five minutes without complaining about liberals, (How's that Fed Pension workin' out for ya ma....you know, the job you had at Social Security, than HCFA)

I recall growing up in NJ with Puerto Ricans in the 1970s. They were very insular, preferring their own people and culture. But the younger generation today seem better educated and more American than earlier generations of Puerto Ricans. Perhaps its the technology. All the young people, regardless of race, appear to embrace the same things today. Not so much in the past.
I think Georgia and New Jersey are next. But due to COVID NY may leapfrog NJ.
I just checked and we both were partly right, and partly something else.
Florida is at 52%, Georgia 53, NJ 54, and NY 55.
Coincidently, Pew research has a piece this week on who is, and isn't Hispanic.
Bottom line, you are what you say you are, even if it's wrong.
Someone else suggested that 10% Hispanic in MD is likely an undercount. Maybe not. PG is 27% and MoCo 20% = 450K.
