About 20 states worth of difference.

Funding, attitudes, parental involvement, all make a big difference. Which is most important? I dunno. I could probably be rich if I could answer that.

Schools are widely variable, indeed. I dunno, I live in KY (not TN) and the taxes were low, but sheesh, I'd rather pay the taxes here... infrastructure, schools, everything was lacking there.

What "Drives" You Most Crazy About Massachusetts Drivers?

They drive outside of Massachusetts the same way they drive in Massachusetts.

I used to warn family that came from MA to visit us here in SC. My #1 thing was do not pull out in front of nor do a quick left in front of drivers here. They have the right of way, not you. People here do not expect it and they may well hit you.

A lot of these comparisons are kind of nitpicky, but I consider Rhode Island drivers to be infinitely worse.
My take on this is that Rhode Island has worse drivers but Massachusetts has less-courteous drivers. You're much more likely to have someone let you in in Rhode Island; you're more likely to have someone honk at you for no good reason in Massachusetts. In Rhode Island, however, you're more likely to have someone slowly pull out in front of you while you're accelerating to 45 down a near-empty road, forcing you to slam on the brakes, as happened to me a couple of days ago. All things considered, I'd rather drive in Rhode Island.

While I'd agree that MA drivers can be more aggressive, I don't think Rhode Islanders are significantly less aggressive. Personally, I would rather drive where the drivers are a little more aggressive than where the drivers are slightly less aggressive, but more oblivious and unpredictable. At least I can anticipate that an upcoming merge is going to be tough because nobody is going to want to let me in and prepare for that. In RI, there's no telling who is going to start to drift into your lane while you're right next to them, pull out in front of you out of the blue, decide that the 4 way stop doesn't apply to them, etc. I'll take the predictability of MA.

I think you're being a little generous to MA.

I'm not saying those things don't happen in MA, but in my experience, they happen less in MA than in RI. Especially the Boston area vs the Providence area

I can't stand my fellow cab drivers, and drivers in general, who cross the double yellow line to or from in the airport tunnels!

Sometimes they even use their turn signal, as if they're being polite; yet, even with the signal blinking, they're breaking the law!
