Other than the hotels making a few extra bucks renting out rooms, we didn't see it. In general the tips were poor and the clientele was far more difficult. Maybe the locals should stand on guard outside their properties or on their decks/roofs/whatever and display their UZI's and AK-47s during the event, and be ready to shoot if necessary, just like the Korean shopkeepers did during the LA Riots. Maybe heavily armed citizens and some participating shopkeepers on open display with heavy armory will present such an image of instability that it will frighten the officials and shopkeepers into doing something about the situation, instead of ineffectually wringing their hands saying that "Nothing can be done". Go all out! Go full-tilt Mandrill! Make it look like a bad day in Bosnia! If anything it'll send these thugs a message that the people Miami ain't F'in around! If it looks like they have to call out the National Guard just to host this event, suddenly it might not seem so attractive to the people who are inviting this trash in.

Last night on channel 10 news they showed how an officer took a cell phone at gunpoint to destroy it in an attempt to hide the bad behavior of the police.

The Herald had a report about that a few days ago:

They say the only reason they were able to show the video to a reporter is because they hid a memory card after police allegedly pointed guns at their heads, threw them to the ground and smashed the cell phone that took the video.

That would be shameful and unacceptable if true. That's the type of thing you'd expect to occur in a repressive country where people don't have many rights, rather than America.

No wonder people mistrust the police. If they were indeed shooting at a criminal, I would think the police would welcome video to use as evidence against the criminal. Perhaps the police were involved in criminal acts themselves?

Is anyone surprised? Miami's cops are some of the worst around, at least in my experience.

Then again if our Police Chief is the leader of this bunch, the best we have, then God help us all.
