Many of the first wave of orginal Cubans ( 60's & 70's ) that were professional , educated and now in many cases wealthy live in Coral Gables ... these should not be confused with some of the Cubans who have arrived here in the last 10 - 15 years which are unfortunately a vastly different breed .

Aventura is in North East Dade county and again is not part of Miami , closer to Miami Beach , very affluent , very New York Jewish , very wealthy South American .

Ditto for Sunny Isles and Golden Beach ... these are not part of or have any connection to the City Of Miami !!

Weston is in Broward County and nearly 16 miles to the Broward / Dade county line , is an affluent city with its own city government , much more "Anglo" than anywhere in Miami nearly 55% of the population with the rest being professional , educated Hispanics from Brazil , Argentina , Venezuela , Chile and Colombia .... and with a surprisingly very , very small Cuban population ( less than 5% )

I am glad you like these places but none other than Key Biscayne are in the actual City of Miami , man I hope you are not a local as it is the only way you can be forgiven for your ignorance on the topic

jjnnino,
And even you are incorrect.
Key Biscayne became a Village in 1991 separating from the City of Miami.
It now has its own Police and Fire Dept. and other village services.

So none of the town's and cities on the IP's list are within the Miami City limits.Be careful who you call ignorant.

its interesting. our complex in waterstone simply turned off the sprinkler system to conserve water. now all the landscaping is dying. it will be interesting to see how they try to sell the houses with a yard full of dead plants. the grass by the front of our house is literally a fire hazard. most of it is dead as dry straw.

3.25 inches in our range gauge. My 55 gallon rain barrel was over flowing in the first 5 minutes of rain. I need more rain barrels.

I am in this area EVERY DAY & it is NICE!!!
I didn't say "upscale" or "ritzy" like some of the other areas mentioned like Bal Harbor. It's a "regular" neighborhood area!!!
north miami beach -- maybe not so bad. i disagree with you on north miami though. i was there 2 weeks ago, usually stay for extended periods of time with my friend off of NE 135. there are definitely worse areas, but there's definitely much better.

Default might as well live in idaho!

Some of you people as just plain ignorant! I have lived in northwest miami my entire life and I'm still alive! First of all, miami gardens ends at nw 47th avenue and 183rd street so country club is still in unincorporated dade as well as the surrounding areas east of I75. I guess most of you are bigots who can afford the million dollar homes in Key Biscayne. Don't look down on those of us who live modestly in miami. I guess its considered a "slum" by some of you since the population is mostly black and hispanic and the homes start under $300 thousand dollars. Those of you who are not from Miami, don't be fooled. As with any other large city, there are good parts and bad parts. The same goes for nw miami, there are good parts and bad parts.

Best places in miami not in order (if you're rich)
1. Brickell area
2. Aventura
3. Palmetto Bay/Pinecrest
4. Coral Gables
5. South Beach area

Top 5 for regular people
1. Miami Shores
2. Miramar (right outside of dade county)
3. Miami Lakes
4. Kendall area
5. Doral area

Default Neighborhoods

It just depends on what you are looking for in a neighborhood. Some of these posts are a bit racist, with all due respect. North Miami has great deals on housing, funky cafes, art galleries and antique shops. That funky and low key feel is very hard to find in Miami. North Beach (the beach not NMB) is a great area and one of the few places in Miami that has a truly urban feel. Its diverse, you can actually walk to shops and restuarants and the beach is right there. Yes, you have to overlook the occassional drug dealing on the corner and you wouldn't want to hang out on the beach alone at night, but its interesting and not filled with big box stories and chain restuarants like Kendall and the rest of the Dade County. If you hate sitting in traffic, don't move to Kendall. Its suburban hell. The upper east side has some great old mimo houses and apartments and the prices are coming down. Shorecrest has the feel of old Florida, very lush, overgrown with wonderful yards and houses. It reminds me of Coconut Grove 25 years ago. The Biscayne Corridor has locally owned restaurants and shops, and yes, you have to be a bit adventerous, so again it depends on what you are looking for in your environment. Belle Meade is a fantastic neighborhood and you can get good housing deals there right now. You can hang out in the suburban sprawl of Dade County forever, and never experience what the city really has to offer.
