In some places Detroit's considered "The Ghost Town or abandon ruins of Mi".

The big event for Grand Rapids, ArtPrize, begins in about a month. Artists are already beginning to install their work, including this 3 dimensional mural on the West Michigan Center for Arts and Technology. Many of the mural entries for ArtPrize have become permanent additions to downtown, probably 30 or more.

I can't wait to see the local photographers entry when it is on display. Todd and Brad Reed (Super nice guys by the way) have an entry that should be cool. They both did a 365 project last year and entered all 730 images as a composite mural entitled "A Year Through Our Eyes." The mosaic the other photographs make is a composite of Brad's wifes eye he took on day 20. Cool concept, and cool photographers. The book they put out (all copies sold already) had all 730 photos and ALL the camera settings used for each image. They are not afraid to share their knowledge, and actually seem to love giving advice, and tips to other photographers. Quite unlike some out there.

It will be 10' X 15' and hangs outside the BOB.

Took the kids out fishing this morning and of course took the camera. Before we came back in we took a little sight seeing tour over by Big Sable Point lighthouse for a few photos. They also got to see how nice the Coasties usually are because when we got back into Ludington Harbor they came over and asked if we had been boarded for a safety inspection yet this year. We had not, so they came along side and conducted their inspection and we had a nice chat with them about the weather today and the season we've had so far. My flares were missing (forgot to put them in this Spring) so they told me to make sure I had them, wished me a good day and motored away. They could have given me a fine for it, but in all honesty, in all the boats I have been on and driving that have been stopped by the Coasties, they have NEVER handed over a fine. You must have to be WAY out of compliance for them to give someone a ticket. I'm usually 100%, but a couple of times over the years they have caught me with my proverbial pants down (like today), and are always super about it.

headed North to the Lighthouse from Ludington.

Big Sable Point Lighthouse.

Yep, that's my youngest son manning the helm while I take his photo with the Lighthouse behind him. All the kids can say they have handled the boat out in the big Lake... in CALM conditions. The waves were only about a foot high today.

The Lighthouse from the North.

Somebody was out for a paddle today as well. Beautiful day for it.

Perfect day! mid 70's and mostly sunny, which means those great big snow white fluffy clouds float by every once in a while.

I think city-data should have a contest of which state has the best photo thread. Michigan - FTW!! (of course, I'm biased)

Michigan has a fantastic photo thread, and some great photographers. Alaska wins by sheer amount and beauty of Alaska, but Michigan is an easy second. But like I said...our thread has some awesome photographers.

For a Midwestern state, and the usual conventional wisdom of "ho-hum flat plains and farmlands," Michigan really rises in terms of scenic beauty, and daresay awe. Quite simply a beautiful state a standout not only in the Midwest, but in the entire U.S. This photo thread is exhibit A.
