Hello all.. I'm about to checkout a job in Mendota Heights. I have never
been to Minneapolis before so I wanted to ask a few questions.

1. Is Mendota Heights a good or bad area of the twin cities?

2. What what would be the closest area to live amongst other singles?
(25-35 age range)

3. Are there highend condos in the area for #2??
(By highend I mean hardwood floors, modern kitchens, and 2 car parking)

Also, while I like to live in nice areas, I'm not into the snobby/petty way of life.
I look for more down-to-earth (yet very nice) areas to live in.

The potential employer is flying me up next week and I would like to get an idea
of where the single people are and where to look for rentals.

Thanks for the advice.

Mendota Heights is a very safe area so no problems there. I would also say Highland for an easy commute. It isn't as "young" as some areas of Minneapolis might be though. There are some very high end condos along Shepard Road in Highland as well as a lot around Lilydale adjacent to Mendota Heights.

You may also want to consider the Macalester Groveland area of St. Paul, near Grand Ave.

I'll be coming to town this Thurs and appreciate the information I am getting so far.

By close-by, I consider any area within a 20 minute commute to Mendota Heights to
be acceptable. I plan to rent a condo (not buy) for the first year. Right now I live
in the "Tech Center" of Denver and rent a 1 year old 1200sq/2BR loft in a mid-rise
with 2 car parking in an underground garage. I have 2 cars so a 2 car garage is a
must with the snow in Minneapolis. I really wish live near an area of 25-30 year old
singles for dating purposes.

So far I am hearing Highland Park, Lilydale, and Macalester Groveland. These all
look like the same area being slightly south-west of St. Paul along the river. I will
start my research on Craigslist this weekend to look for rentals to call on while I
am in town. Given my 20 min hard limit on commuting and my desire to be in a
dating area, are these the most suitable areas for me to look?

I look forward to being a resident and "Twins" fan very shortly. Thanks again!
Tom

These areas seem like the best option since Mendota Heights is a suburb if St. Paul and living on the Minneapolis side of town may push your commute beyond 20 minutes. You may also want to consider the Lowertown neighborhood of downtown St. Paul. My wife and I live in Highland Park and there is a nice mix of singles, young families, and a few older residents on our street. The condo listings that Cheddar and I posted would definitely work. When you come to town, make sure to check out Grand Ave., which has a great mix of condos, restaurants, bars, and shops.

Default Cheddar absolutely nailed it..

cheddar:

This listing on 370 Marshall Ave in St. Paul is exactly like what I live in now.
You hit the nail right now the head!

But I am looking to rent my first year to see how things go before I buy.
So this is the kind of living I would like, but I need to rent one and also
be in an area of eligible (settling-down oriented) women.

I sense that Uptown may be the place where people are there to date
a lot but not necessarily looking to get serious. Downtown Denver is
just like that.

Thanks again Cheddar..

Default Had a great trip to St. Paul...

Thanks to everyone for contributing to my posts. I just came back from
a 4 day trip to the St. Paul area and loved it there.

If the job pans out, I will probably rent a condo along Shepard Rd. I also
really liked Eagan where my hotel was.
