We're costantly harangued about the tax burden in MN. But if you look at the link below, our taxes as a percentage of income is just about at the national average. Won't hear that from the GOP in budget debates.

States with the highest and lowest taxes

You are comparing the revenue generated as a percent of the state's income, not the overall burden on the tax payers. MN ranks in the top 10 for overall tax burden on the tax payers.

Considering who else is in the top 10, I think MN gets a lot of bang for their buck.

I agree. Having lived in a low tax state, I gladly pay my taxes for the quality of programs, schools, etc. we enjoy here.

Property taxes are to easy of a target.
It's getting out of control.

The states dept is way to high.
We still/were on the brink of bankruptcy as a state.

Taxes and promises, then taxed some more yet the promises elude the tax payer.

From the link, Minnesota's tax burden is 11.1% against a national average of 9.9%. In other words, $1200 out of a family income of 100k (or, $50 per bi-monthly paycheck on that 100k income).

As life-altering as it must be to have Alabama's wondrous 8.2% local tax rate, I think I'll take the benefits that come with living in a state that is willing to invest in itself, with returns in a high graduation rate, a low violent crime rate, a long life expectancy, and the myriad other quality-of-life aspects in which Minnesota ranks well and the slightly-lesser taxed states on the list rank poorly. Some others have a different calculus, of course.

Taxes will be a huge target for some time in this economy. I have no complaint on where it's been but where it's going could be another issue all together.
