Ahoy everybody -

I'm hunting for a really good quality fabric store in our state - there's bound to be one somewhere in MN.

I'm really NOT looking for a quilt shop which sells primarily sized cottons, or any chain store such as JoAnnes/Hancock/HobbyLobby which sell now primarily to crafters and decorators.

What I'm searching for is a fabric store which sells a really large variety of nice quality dress goods such as wools and silks and obscure stuff like linsey woolsey for people who sew clothing or do textile conservation.

I would have posted this in the Mpls/St. Paul forum but you never know - one of the good smaller cities or towns (which as we all know AREN'T all flat and boring) might have a wonderful fabric store.

And thanks, I know all the fabric websites already. I'm just tired of buying on-line sight unseen or having to wait for swatches or waiting to buy until I can make a trip to Kansas City to visit my favorite fabric store. I miss browsing and touching among aisles and aisles of nice smelling fabrics .

Surely there's got to be a really good one somewhere in our state!

Thank you, dravo, that looks like it has great potential!

Are there any other nice fabric stores around the state, gentle readers?

There used to be a similar place to SR Harris out by Willmar but I'm not sure if they are still open or not.

Treadle Yard Goods in St. Paul is a local favorite, although go soon -- they are for sale. They specialize in quality clothing fabric.

Thanks for the additional recommendations! Treadle Yard Goods says they have lots of suitors who will keep them open where they are for many years to come, so I'm excited about going there! I looked up the Fabric & Textile Warehouse in Willmar and they're still there - unfortunatey it seems as though they've succumbed to quilting/crafting/weddings/decorator disease. But any fabric store is always worth a visit, and besides, I don't think I've ever been to Willmar. I appreciate everyone's help!
