That's not good manners, it's bad driving.

I agree. I always try to minimize my impact on other drivers. They're driving thousands of pounds of metal at high speeds in my vicinity, which means I respect the potential threat they represent.

I have mixed results with MN Nice. On the one hand, it's nice to have friendly neighbors who are willing to help out with the small things. On the other, when a friend of mine gets overwhelmed with life issues and starts crying in the middle of her living room, it'd be nice if her roommates of 3 months did more than just awkwardly stare at her.

Stoicism is great and all, but there's a time to draw the line.

Comedians had fun with the satirical view of four drivers at a stop "nicely" waiting for someone else to be first to go. But manners do matter. Basically manners are about having a social conscience. People who think manners should be eliminated are probably too impulsive to inhibit themselves in any way. Freedom is really about self-control. Without a lot of it there'd never be any freedom. You control yourself and thereby eliminated the need for a keeper. Everything virtuous has a natural limit, but that, to me, is not an argument for eliminating virtue. Maybe our upbringing gives us a bit too much inhibition, but we have more rational arguments in public affairs than places that value very little self-control.

More "rational" arguments? That's why you elected Michelle Bachmann?

Never was sticking my chest out, just saying that Michelle Bachmann isn't exactly the picture of rational politician, counter to Beenhere4Ever's argument that Minnesotans are more rational about politics.

Who are you talking to?

Most of the posters here don't live in her district, I suspect. The 6th congressional district is mainly St. Cloud and outer suburban/exurban areas across the far north of the metro, and some of those areas are pretty conservative relative to the rest of the Twin Cities. And she barely scraped by in this last election.
