Unless you are 2nd or 3rd generation stay away from Bowling green, Louisiana or any other small town in Missouri. Stick to the larger towns. It's not safe to move there.

Most of what you said is true, some parts in Missouri can be very clannish family wise. But on the other hand big places like St. louis can also be very dangerous. But don't let what we said discourage you from moving to Missouri for we are a truely great state.

YIKES!!

Ozarksboy - your "stay away from Missouri" campaign is starting to spread like wildfire, but it's starting to lose that "we're kidding, no we're not, yes we are, no seriously we're not, come on over, no stay away" tinge of humor that it started out with.

You folks are rough

OP, the idea that small towns in Missouri are not "safe" is hogwash.
While they can be rather insular, if you take an interest in the town, and the people in it, you'll be fine.

I can't say much for the Animal Clinimc - I have never used it. When I was in NEMO, I always used a closer vet to me that was in Canton.

I live in St. Louis now. To put some positive in this thread, I would like to add that Bowling Green is experiencing some growth along hwy 61 as of late. The new Walmart just opened - at the expense of the one in Louisianna which is a shame, and the bottling plant (or whatever is there) for Pepsi is relatively new. The prison opened some time back on the north end of town, with new jobs. The town is actually just over an hour from Lambert Airport in St. Louis - so it isn't as isolated as some might think. The small towns in Missouri are not as bad as people think. There are not a lof of social outlets, so you may have to be a little more aggressive and get involved in the community to meet people.
