You would rather they be unlicensed?

Could it be that because of the bad puppy mill press Missouri has received over the last several years that the state and breeders are doing a better job at licensing than other states?

no..... the point of the post is that Missouri has far far more commcercial dog breeding enterprises than any other state in the country......

and those counted on this map are only those that are licensed by the USDA ..... there are far more that don't even bother with that.....

I don't think this is something to be proud of.....

Maybe not but without context it is a little hard to make a judgment call.

I'm guessing there is a whole lot more dog breeding going on in California and Texas than in Missouri, licensed or not.

Might be a lot more people breeding in all these states than should be...and no one gets licensed to do it....if you don't participate in it, you are not part of the problem.

Wow, Kansas is really high on the list as well. That surprises me. (I would wager that southeast Kansas is a big contributor to this).

SEKS, SWMO, NEOK and NWAR = a large pool of unlicensed breeders and puppy mills. Let's not forget the male dogs and male chickens bred to fight. Big wager dollars change hands amongst the hidden back roads sports fans.

Question Now compliance with the law is a negative

So, to be clear, last year a law was passed tightening up lisensure requirements/inspections and now that Missouri has nearly 1500 which the USDA deems as compliant by licensing them, it is still a problem in your eyes.

Got it. This was indeed the concern last year by those farmers who voiced opposition to the legislation. Obviously passing the legislation and USDA enforcement isn't enough. From your post I suspect the real goal was to stop all breeding, licensed or otherwise.

I was in favor of, and voted for, the ballot initiative last year, but I 100% agree with this. I don't understand the "shameful" part at all.

Then again I have purebred Boston Terriers, so I'm sure I'm, in the OP's eyes, as big a part of the problem as the breeders themselves.

I don't think we should leave out rural Illinois and I'm guessing certain inner-city neighborhoods of Chicago as well.
