Missourians used about 85.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity for which they paid a total of about $5.6 billion at an average cost of 6.56 cents per kilowatt-hour. Missouri ranked 19th among states in residential expenditures for electricity, 21st in commercial expenditures and 25th in industrial expenditures. Missouri ranked 22nd in total expenditures for electricity. Residential consumers in Missouri paid about 49 percent of the state's total electricity bill.

The 1939 census taker reported over 1,300 places of amusement in Missouri, including 12 amusement parks, over 500 billiard parlors, 137 bowling alleys, 10 professional baseball clubs, 39 dance halls, 35 roller skating rinks, 446 motion-picture theatres and there were 15 radio stations.

In 1940, one-third of all persons who had been born in Missouri were living in other states; California led all states except Missouri in the number of residents who were Missouri natives.

State inspection reports show Missouri nursing homes have caused or contributed to more than two dozen deaths over the past three years. The watchdog group, Families for Better Care, ranked Missouri the fourth worst state in the nation when it comes to nursing homes.

Charles Dehault Delassus (1767-1843)
He was the last Spanish lieutenant governor stationed in St.Louis. His aristocratic family fled France during the French Revolution. They were friends with the Baron de Carondolet, who appointed Delassus to a post at New Madrid in present-day southeast Missouri. Delassus was transferred upriver to St.Louis in 1799.
