I am staying.
Missouri is a very diverse state both culturally and climate wise.

Far southwestern Missouri has the warmest winter highs followed by the bootheel. The weather in winter in the southern quarter of Missouri is very tolerable, a lot warmer than even Stl.

Places like Table Rock and Bull Shoals a lot of warm days in the winter. A lot cheaper than here in FL to live. Granted even in those areas still gets cold but tolerable still.

Grew up in Clark County in the 70s, with no A/C. Lots of places without A/C back then. Even as a 12 year old I knew it was miserable.

No, I'm closer to 1,000 ft. elevation and we get fronts coming down from the Great Lakes region half the summer. There are a few years with nearly no high temperatures above 90F the entire summer.

Yeah, I spent a number of years in Clark County closer to the Ohio River and purposely moved to a much higher elevated area in Floyd County. The difference is huge overall.

We didn't have air conditioning growing up in St. Louis County until 1978.

It was hot, but we lived in a big old house with high ceilings, big windows and fans. Lots of fans to blow the hot air around.

Was used to it. Wouldn't go back, but those were great days as a kid. Had relatives from Iowa, Minnesota and Chicago would come visit and would melt in the heat and humidity.

We didn't have air conditioning in North County either. It was rough on our parents but us kids spent more time outside so we didn't notice it much.
It got really bad in school where the only AC was in the teachers' lounge. Classrooms were a stinking sweatbox, especially when it was pouring outside and the teacher wouldn't let us open the windows. A number of kids were taken to the nurse's office after passing out. A couple of times an ambulance showed up.
The teacher had one little oscillating fan on her desk that created a slight breeze, but some little gonad stuck a pencil in it that bent the blades and that was the end of that.

My mom and I moved to Missouri, after traveling across the midwest and central parts of the country. After living in Arizona for 7 years!!! That state is hell on earth, I'll never step foot in that place again. I don't even know why people like that place, it's running out of water, the rents are sky high and not to mention the heat.

We've been here since August, it is the only state we found that we can afford. My mother is going to be 61 years old this year and is on SSDI, and she makes a car payment every two weeks and we are close to getting a housing voucher. For this first time! This wasn't even possible in other states.

People need to realize no state is perfect, there's going to be ups and downs in every state. You just have to decide what's more important being close to your daughter or not being able to see her. So you have to learn what you need versus what you want. But Missouri isn't that bad of a state, I've seen worse.

Thank you very much. I'll go ahead and do that. I was just waiting until we found the right place.

I have lived in Missouri most of my life. I have lived in several cities, but moved my business back home and never regretted it. Rural Missouri is just so laid back and peaceful. You can find yourself talking for 20 minutes in a store to a person you never met before. Very few major crimes. Houses are comparatively cheap. Utilities and groceries are affordable. Neighbors are friendly without being intrusive.
