Chariton Courier April 4, 1884

On Sunday night last week, burglars forced an entrance into T.G. Dulany's hardware store, and helped themselves to what they wanted.
The money drawer was broken open and the money, only a few cents, was taken. A large number of pocketknives, a pistol and cartridges were also taken. It seems two parties worked without a light of any kind, as no evidence was left behind that lights had been used. The tools, consisting of an old ax, an iron bolt and a chisel, with which an entrance was effected, were left behind. There is no clue to the thieves, and they will likely get clear away.

Mr. De Bernardi visited Sedalia Saturday and drew from one of the banks $100. When he received the money he noticed a large man with a white hat watching him, and when he boarded a freight train for home the same party was also a passenger, and had with him a younger and smaller companion.
Mr. De Bernardi left the train at Dresden, and so did the strangers who began loafing around the depot all evening. Sometime during the night the four houses were burglarized for a total of $60.
