I have recently received a copy from my brother in England of a letter that was sent to our great grandmother from John Williams in 1888. He was working as a stonecutter in STONE MILLS of Conrad Jordan, Nevada. Mo. .
The letter was to his mother in London. I know this is a long shot but wondered if anyone remembers this Mill or has a relative of a John Williams.
Thanks

Found several John Williams on the 1880 census but there is no indication of occupation so its not possible to know if this is the person you're looking for.

Are there any other clues in the letter as to his age, family, place of origin, etc.?

I can find no reference to those stone mills here in Nevada, Mo. Any other info that you can give would be appreciated.

links to some Missouri mills: MillPictures.com - Pictures of Mills and Historic Mill Information (http://millpictures.com/Mills/index_pictures.cfm?state=Missouri - broken link)

A white pages search turns up 7 pages of people with the last name of "Wiliams" in Nevada, Missouri; so, chances are at least one may be a relative!

Found this link of stone cutters in Vernon county, MO but did not see the name John Williams listed:
