They do need to start rejecting more applicants. Ravamping the higher education system, making it more efficient and eliminating redundant waste, would bring that about just as it did for Penn State. The remaining 4 year schools would all benefit enormously from such a move, and it would give the residents of the State the higher tier institution they deserve.
Family medicine and general practice are vitally important. And, for a largely rural state like West Virginia such a focus if also relevant. Given the inefficiencies and retrograde activities of our State Government regarding higher education, and the relative lack of support by the State for its flagship institution, WVU does a remarkable job. To be listed in the Top 10 in any legitimate field is admirable under such circumstances. They could be Top 10 in a lot more areas if the State would only step to the plate with the changes they need to make.
